El amor asesinado

Nunca podrá decirse que la infeliz Eva omitió ningún
medio lícito de zafarse de aquel tunantuelo de Amor, que la perseguía sin
dejarle punto de reposo.

Empezó poniendo tierra en medio, viajando para romper
el hechizo que sujeta al alma a los lugares donde por primera vez se nos aparece
el Amor. Precaución inútil, tiempo perdido; pues el pícaro rapaz se subió a la
zaga del coche, se agazapó bajo los asientos del tren, más adelante se deslizó
en el saquillo de mano, y por último en los bolsillos de la viajera. En cada
punto donde Eva se detenía, sacaba el Amor su cabecita maliciosa y le decía con
sonrisa picaresca y confidencial: «No me separo de ti. Vamos juntos.»
